Choosing the Right Amount of Beef for Your Family

At Wallace Gap Ranch, you have options when it comes to buying farm-raised beef. Every household is different, and the right choice depends on how often you cook, how much freezer space you have, and what kinds of meals you like to make. Some families want to stock up for months, while others prefer a smaller supply they can rotate through more quickly.

Our Beef Options

We offer four main ways to buy beef:

  1. Whole Cow – best suited for restaurants, large families, or households that cook beef frequently

  2. Half Cow – a great middle ground for families who want a full variety of cuts

  3. Quarter Cow – our most popular choice for families

  4. Ground Beef Box – a simple option for everyday meals

Having several beef options allows customers to choose what fits their cooking habits, budget, and storage space instead of feeling locked into one large purchase.

Why Smaller Portions Make Sense

Most families do not have the freezer space for a full cow, and that is completely normal. Many of our customers start with a half or quarter cow so they can enjoy a variety of cuts without needing a large freezer or making a larger upfront purchase.

A quarter cow typically provides about 100 to 120 pounds of packaged beef, which is often enough to supply around six months of meals for a family of four, depending on how often beef is served.

Why Ground Beef Is So Popular

Varying beef cut options

If you prefer quick, flexible meals, ground beef is one of the easiest proteins to keep on hand. Research shows that 40 to 45 percent of the beef consumed in the United States is ground beef, and it appears in a large share of home-cooked meals. That popularity comes from its versatility, it works in everything from tacos and pasta to burgers, soups, and casseroles.

Choose the Right Size and Get Started

Whether you want to fill a freezer or simply keep a few pounds on hand for meal prep, there is an option that fits. Choosing the right amount of beef is the first step, and buying directly from a local farm, like Wallace Gap Ranch, gives you confidence in how your beef was raised and handled from start to finish.
